Why starting a podcast should be your new year’s resolution for 2026
Don't be overwhelmed by the prospect of having to set a new years resolution. Here's why we think podcasting is the best way to build confidence, communication skills and connection in 2026

Entering the new year can be overwhelming. There’s often pressure to set resolutions and suddenly morph into the best version of yourself. It’s known as the time for setting your intentions but it gets boring hearing the same New Years resolutions; Eat Healthier, quit smoking, Join the Gym. So how can you feel fulfilled this January without caving to the pressure of paying for an overpriced gym membership and doing a juice cleanse which you’re never going to stick to?

2026 is the year of the Horse and whether you believe in zodiacs or not, they can be quite a nice starting point for setting resolutions. The Year of the Horse is for energy, freedom, adventure, connection and self-expression. So, it’s time to start something new, a podcast to be exact.

The reason that I think starting a podcast is the perfect New Years resolution for 2026 is that it’s a project which can have longevity if you want it to. You can spend the whole year researching, creating and editing or you can record a few episodes off the cuff. Either way, it’s the perfect way to express yourself, channel your creativity and talk freely about what you’re passionate about plus you’re guaranteed to feel satisfied with the result.

Having now worked within the podcasting and radio industry for nearly 2 years I’ve seen how transformative podcasting creation can be - it can give someone purpose, drive, confidence. It’s also an amazing way to develop and create connections. Inviting a stranger onto your podcast can result in a life-long friendship. Let’s break it down:

Share your wisdom

Most of us have something we’re passionate about, are you an avid book worm? Do you star gaze? Do you collect records? Maybe you’re a twitcher? Or maybe you’re well researched in ancient Greek mythology. To you, this knowledge may seem obvious, but your perspective is unique, and it deserves to be shared.

Podcasting is an amazing way to talk about the weird and wonderful things that you’re an expert in with complete freedom and there’s room for everything, no matter how niche the topic.

It’s easy and affordable - if you do it right

Getting started in podcasting can be daunting if you have to start from the beginning. Doing research on what mic you should use is enough to make anyone loose momentum. Luckily for you we’ve done all the hard work for you. We’ve created a quiet cosy space hidden away in Kings Cross which is designed to make you feel like you’re in a living room. We’ve got mics, cameras and expertise. You can check out our full tech spec here. Either book the studio alone and record independently or use our production and editing services.

We’ve also recently launched the Podcast Studio Residency as a more affordable option for grassroots podcasters which includes studio time, promotion and expertise for less. Don’t worry, even if applications aren’t open right now, they will again later in the year so sign up to our newsletter or follow our Instagram to be the first to know.

It can help you you to build confidence

It can be daunting sharing your thoughts and knowledge publicly, but the beauty of podcasting is that you’re in complete control and the studio is designed to make you feel completely at home (literally – it looks like a living room!)

Podcasting is an incredible tool to help you gain confidence in sharing your ideas, improve your communication skills and get used to the sound of your own voice.

A few months of podcasting and you’ll find yourself speaking out in those business meetings you always found so intimidating – trust me!

Creating connections

Podcasting can be an amazing way to deepen the connections you already have. Inviting a friend/ partner/ family member/ colleague to co-create a podcast with you is an incredible way to bond and spend quality time together working towards a shared goal.

Podcasting can also be an amazing way to make new connections. Inviting a guest onto your podcast is the perfect excuse to reach out to people who inspire and interest you. I’ve witnessed friendships being formed in the studio and it’s beautiful to see.

It’s a hobby which you may one day make money from

I don’t necessarily think you should quit your job right now and pursue podcasting full time however, you never know where podcasting may lead. What may start as a creative project, just for fun, can lead into a career. The majority of influencers who now earn 6 figure sums per post started off with a 9-5 just doing vlogging on the side.

And, if you sign up for our podcast studio residency, we’ll help you to promote and broadcast your show as part of the deal.

You won’t regret it

I haven’t met a single podcaster who regrets starting a podcast. There is nothing not to love. At Voices Studio we’re on hand to help you with the tech and practical side so all you need to do is show up and talk about the things that matter to you.
